PICKAWAY MUTUAL DEFENSE SOCIETY GROUP RECOGNITION W/SPECIAL THANKS TO MEMBERS BUTCH BETZKO AND PETE RAINE
Pickaway Mutual Defense Society was established on February 17th of 2021. We had six people attend our first meeting and have grown to now having 30 members. Our group has a Firearms Safety and Training Leader, a Firearm Law and Education Leader, a Public & Private County Relations and Media Leader, a Fundraising, Membership Outreach and Communications Leader and a Preparedness & Survival Leader.
Since our group was established, our group has had fundraisers such as an annual Turkey Shoot, Movie Nights and Firearm Raffles. We have attended State House hearings and sent out mailings to State and National Representatives pertaining to our Second Amendment Right. WE educate our members on current gun legislation. Our group has established a monthly range day, provided CCW classes and our new Women’s Defense Fundamental Course.
PMDS has also established a radio group and a volunteer“Tower Take-Down” Group and a volunteer “Tower Put-Up” Group that provides our members home towers for emergency or disaster communications. Our volunteer “Tower Take-Down” Group has currently taken down (5) towers and (3) members are currently recipients of towers because of this group’s efforts, skills and commitment.
PMDS members are continually being educated on preparedness and survival skills and needs. PMDS members attended food preservation classes given by the Ohio State Extension Division. Finally, we have had several speakers attend our meeting and speak to us on a variety of issues; from our local Sheriff, a firearms trainer & legislature activist to Mark Sheppard speaking to us about solar activities and such.
PMDS in its short existence has offered its members a variety of multitude life changing skills; however, the best that Pickaway Mutual Defense Society offers is the comradery of likeminded people, the spirit of friendship and the contribution from all its members for a common cause.
All our members have contributed to the group for the continuation and survival of our group whether it be chipping in more money then asked at times, the donating and discounts of firearms, donating your time and efforts on our tower groups, baking and cooking for our members to enjoy, supply donations, the use of your property and homes, members sharing their skills or helping in our fundraisers. It is because of EACH of you that PMDS is still growing, able to do good and is going on three years. Your contributions are greatly appreciated and it is what makes our group special, THANK YOU!
We also have members that have served our country or our communities at home. I would like to acknowledge those members; Member Dave Stockham (Served (4) Years in the Army), Member Steve Garner (Served in Law Enforcement), Member Robert Gardner (Served (8) Years in the Army), Member Tom Poe (Served (6) Years in the Marines & (18) Years in the Navy), Member Greg Shaw (Served (4) Years in the US Airforce), Member Carl Fuller (Served 32 Years in the Army Special Forces, was a Green Beret and Retired as a Master Sgt), Member Glen Stockham (Served (4) Years in the Navy), Member Kenny Arnold (Served in the Navy & Marines), Member Chuck Hockenheimer (Served in the US Air Force, Ohio Nat’l Guard), Member Pete Raine (Served (4) Years in the US Coast Guard) and finally Member Butch Betzko (Served (27) Years in the Army. PMDS Thanks you all for your service.
Although our group offers a variety of skills and education, our groups core reason for being is to exercise the right of the people to keep and bear Arms and to preserve that right!
TODAY I WANT TO ACKNOWLEDGE SGT MAJOR CLAIRE BETZKO FOR GOING ABOVE AND BEYOND, FOR SHARING HIS SKILLS WITH OUR MEMBERS FOR THE BETTERMENT OF OUR COMMUNITY!
Butch Betzko served 27 years in the United States Army, during his tenure he was “Ranger” qualified, “Special Forces” qualified and retired from the military as a Sargent Major. After returning home Butch worked (25+) years for the Franklin County Sheriffs department. During those twenty-five years Butch worked in the jail, worked patrol, detective division, civil division, mounted unit, SWAT TEAM and was a sniper instructor. Butch contracted with Tri Canopy for three tours, doing two tours in Iraq providing security at the U.S. Embassy. His third tour from Tri Canopy was contracted out to the U.S. State Department where he was the advisor to the Iraqi Minister of Defense. After retirement Butch has been teaching CCW (Concealed Carry Weapons) Classes and is an NRA Instructor.
It is with appreciation that we honor Sgt Major Claire Betzko for his willingness to share his skills with all of our members, volunteering on our tower groups, for accepting a PMDS leadership role, being an active participant in the NRA and mostly for being a friend to all.
